Community Cycling Program

PE 101 Cycling to Service for 1st quarter Fall 2022 is open for registration!  Please contact Chloe Tian '23, SEEDS Community Cycling Program Coordinator for more information to enroll in the Cycling to Service PE class.  *You will need permission to enroll in the class.

The community cycling program is both a physical education class and a volunteer opportunity. Students sign up for the PE class “Cycling to Service” through SOLAR and spend a quarter biking to and volunteering at the , a local nonprofit organization that aims to broaden access to bicycling and its benefits.

Volunteering includes helping to repair children’s bikes for the center’s annual Holiday Bike Drive. Students embark on a great ride to and from the northeast Portland shop—about 15 miles per class—to learn more about basic bicycle safety, Portland bike routes, and bike maintenance. No bike mechanic skills are necessary! To participate, sign-up for the class and bring your bike and helmet or borrow them from the bike co-op!

Named in honor of Mark Angeles ’15, the SEEDS Community Cycling Program Intern & Fellow leads the Community Cycling P.E. class. Mark was an exceptional student, house adviser, bike coop manager, and SEEDS volunteer with both the Lane After School Program and the Community Cycling Program. He was killed in a bike accident involving a tow truck just after his graduation. This program continues to honor his legacy at ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó.

Note: students cannot earn both PE credit and CE credit for this course; you must choose one.

Blood Drives

SEEDS partners with the American Red Cross to host four blood drives throughout the year. On-campus blood drives are listed on ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó's events calendar and are open to ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó students, staff, faculty, and the broader Portland community. Consider donating blood or volunteering for a blood drive. Find out more about on-campus blood drives.

Outside In Pre-Health Program

*This program is temperoarily on pause, please stay tuned for updates on this program.  For more information, contact seeds@reed.edu.

The pre-health program is a weekly volunteer and community engagement credit opportunity for students interested in any health field, including mental health, physical health, pre-med or pre-nursing, nutrition, and more. Students work with Outside In, a local health services organization, and can choose from a variety of clinical and non-clinical roles.

Since 1968, Outside In has transformed thousands of lives by helping to break the cycles of chronic homelessness, poverty, and poor health among Portland’s LGBTQIA+ community, people of color, those experiencing homelessness, and the underserved. Outside In's health clinic and young adult programs strive to meet people where they are and provide safe, affirming spaces for our community to receive judgment-free care and support.
