Richard Lewis Meigs ’50

Richard Lewis Meigs ’50, December 9, 2014, in Olympia, Washington, from pneumonia. Dick attended ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó for close to three years before serving in the U.S. Army and the OSS during World War II. He returned to ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó, but completed a bachelor’s degree at Lewis & Clark. He earned an MA from the University of Washington and taught in a number of Washington high schools. A love of the outdoors led to his hiking and camping on Mount Rainier and in the North Cascades. In the mid-’60s, Dick moved to California, where he taught school and went on to obtain a degree in law. Admitted to the bar in four states, Dick practiced law in San Francisco for a number of years, doing pro bono work for homeless veterans. He returned to Washington in the ’90s, where he lived on Offutt Lake. Dick and married in 1952. They had two children and later divorced. His son and daughter survive him, as do three grandchildren and his brother, Gilbert.
