Mary Lou Williams Thomas ’47

Mary Lou Williams Thomas ’47, May 28, 2015, in Portland. A native of Portland, Mary Lou came to ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó from Grant High School and earned a BA in general literature. She and had three children and lived in Salem for many years, where Mary Lou taught in the Talented and Gifted Program in the Salem Public Schools. Mary Lou’s lifelong passion, reports her family, was for the pursuit of knowledge—nature, science, art, oceans, and sea life—and she “graciously shared her joy in these subjects.” A gifted artist and skilled in calligraphy and in working with gold leaf, Mary Lou was a member of the Portland Society for Calligraphy and the Gold Bugs. She also was a member of the Mazamas and summited every peak in the Cascade Range. Lloyd and their daughter Margaret Ann (Megan) preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
