Charles M. Nielsen ’49, April 30, 1994, in Sacramento, California. After graduating from ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó, he entered Union Theological Seminary, New York, where he earned a BD in 1952 and a ThD in 1959. He was an instructor in church history at Union Theological Seminary from 1956 to 1958, and from 1958 to 1962 was assistant professor of church history at the Graduate School of Religion, University of Southern California. In 1962, he began teaching at Colgate Rochester Divinity School/Bexley Hall/Crozer Theological Seminary. He became professor of historical theology in 1965, retiring in 1987. He was awarded a faculty fellowship from the American Association of Theological School in 1968 to study abroad at Oxford and Berlin. After retiring, he and his wife, Eloise, moved to his home town of Sacramento. He was named distinguished visiting professor at the American Baptist Seminary of the West, Berkeley, in 1988 and continued to teach there until his death. He was the author of numerous scholarly and satirical publications and a member of the American Academy of Religion and several other professional associations. Survivors include his wife, a daughter, a son, and two grandchildren.
