Phillip M. Mayer ’33

Phillip Mayer ’33, October 21, 1999, in Portland. He entered federal service in 1935, working in personnel and other administrative positions in a number of agencies, primarily in Washington, D.C. In 1950, he began working for the Bonneville Power Administration in Portland. At the time of his retirement in 1971, he was personnel director and equal opportunity officer for the BPA. He was a past board member of the ACLU’s Portland chapter, and was a past trustee of ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó College. He was a member of the First Unitarian Church and served as a moderator in the ’60s. He married Ruth Henry in 1936; she died in 1974. After her death he married Dorothy Wood Petersen ’35. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lynn Mayer ’58, MALS ’74; a stepdaughter; and a stepson.
