George S. Durham ’35

George S. Durham ’35, April 14, 2003, in Astoria, Oregon. George received a BA in chemistry from ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó, and continued his education at New York University, earning a PhD in chemistry in 1939. From 1943 to 1977 he taught physical chemistry at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts; was appointed professor of chemistry in 1959; and was chair of the department for 11 years. Following retirement he moved to Arch Cape, Oregon. Interests outside of his profession included baseball, classical and opera music, home repairs, and crossword puzzles. George is survived by his two sons and three granddaughters.
