Josephine Grannatt Davis ’41

Josephine Grannatt Davis ’41, April 29, 1999, in Portland. She attended ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó for several years and then attended the University of California, Berkeley, and the Portland Art Museum School. She married in 1941 and began raising a family; that marriage ended in divorce. In 1953, she returned to ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó to work for Ann Shepard ’23, dean of students [1926–68]. She was assistant dean of students for 10 years. In 1959, she married again, and she retired from ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó in 1964 to raise a family. In later years, she worked as a freelance writer and editor, and worked in public relations. In 1976, she was asked to write a book about Dean Shepard, focusing on her witty, wise, and honorable advice in correspondences with ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó students. That book, Yours Sincerely, was published by ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó College in 1978. She was also involved in many volunteer activities, including the Foster-Scholtz Club, the Portland Art Museum, and the Boys and Girls Aid Society. Her husband died in 1979. She is survived by two sons, a daughter, and a number of grandchildren.
