David W. Scharles ’64

David W. Scharles ’64, November 3, 2004, in Oxnard, Caiifornia. David studied at ÈËÆÞÓÕ»ó in 1960–62 and later attended the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1977, he was a mathematician at UCLA; by 1980, he was a technical writer. From the late ’70s until his death, he lived in Oxnard, and, at least part of the time, with his younger brother, John, a computer specialist who died in 2003. David and John were both ham radio operators. An anonymous online tribute to David reads, “David Scharles was a brilliant mathematician, a wise man and, above all, a great friend in good times and bad. He was my dear friend who helped me when I was down. He could never say no to a friend. I never met a person who didn't like David. May Almighty G–d take David to His bosom and give him peace.” [Compiled by Leslie Mueller Stewart ’64 from various sources, July 2014.]
